| WHAT’S MY REAL JOB?

I’ve just come of an hour long phone convo with my friend, whilst editing these pictures – and I’m just sat here thinking, what can I write a post on next?

Then I thought, well I’ve just had a massive lonnnnng catch up over our lives, buying new houses, relationships and office drama

So maybe I could talk more about what I do everyday

This may come as a surprise, but this whole awkward posing in the street doing outfit shots isn’t actually my real job.

I know, right.

In real life, I work Monday – Friday in search marketing, specifically Pay Per Click aka ‘PPC’, for JD Sports in Manchester

| WHAT IS PPC?

So what is PPC really? What do you do?

I actually had no idea what is was, and I only fell into by chance when I was being interviewed for an SEO position

One of the PPC managers had sat in on my interview, just to give a second opinion, but he realised I might actually be a better fit to work with him instead

So to put it simply, PPC is basically managing ads on Google

  • So yknow those annoying ads, that you see at the top of Google’s search pages – I’m that person, who writes those ads
  • Have you ever searched for something using the Google shopping option – I’m that person that manages what product images shows up
  • Also, have you ever noticed, if you browse on ASOS one minute, and then you go on Facebook, that product seemed to have followed you there – I’m also that person that manages how to retarget you, how often, and how long for!

Every time someone clicks on one of my ad, we have to pay a small amount to Google for it that click

Hence, Pay Per Click

| WOULD I EVEN LIKE IT?

Not having done the job before, or known anyone who’s done it before, was quite worrying…

Would I even like it?

I knew it was going to be quite analytical, and the job required some decent skills in Excel, and I knew I had alot to learn!

But I’m still doing it 10 months on, and it’s still going really well!

Not only do I work with the PPC team, I also work really closely with other areas of the business too, such as SEO, Merchandisers, Marketing etc etc

And everyone LOVES meetings!

If I was a YTuber, I’ll be that person – ‘I’m just going to a meeting. I’ve just got out of a meeting. I’ve just had a meeting and it went really well. I’ve just had a secret meeting, which i’m so excited to tell you about’

| I DO IT BECAUSE I LIKE IT

I know for the majority of bloggers I follow, we only do this blogging stuff on the side

People ask me all the time why I do it? How do I even have time?

Let me tell you, we work our bums off in the evenings, at the weekends, and even during our lunch breaks to produce content. It’s not an easy gig at all, and we don’t just do it for the freebies either

I simply do it because I like it. Regardless if I was getting paid or not.

Don’t get me wrong, it is hard to juggle both, but I think if it’s not your full time job, just blog when you want to

The second, you’re forcing yourself to create content just for the sake of it, it’ll soon begin to feel like a chore – and you’ll end up not enjoying it all

So when you’re not taking OOTD’s in the rain, or scheduling tweets for the week ahead, what do you guys do in real life? x

  • Love this post because I somehow relate to it. I don’t work but I am a full time student and it can be very time consuming trying to juggle both. My major has nothing to do with fashion but I just love it so much that I use all my extra free time working on ameliorating my blog. I had an idea that a job like that existed but never knew the name, sounds like an awesome job though especially since you are enjoying it!

    Ps. You look great!

Doing both is so hard, and people really under estimate how much time actually goes into being a blogger! I think you’re doing such a good job though! your outfits are always on point! x

Nice write-up. So are adblockers a problem for you? Also, do you receive any info from the ads – eg what kind of people click on which ads?

Important to have a real interest outside of work. I am a programmer and for a long time told myself I was interested in programmery stuff. Only just realising how much I am *not* interested in programmery stuff. bla etc.

I think it would show here if your heart weren’t in it. Your voice is clear and calm and fresh, and the person in the photos has the same style.

Is that how you’re turned out at work? You look really cool! I bet you were grateful for that coat though: is March a bit early for midriffs in Manchester?

    Best wishes
